Grand Knight Report for March
It is my feeling that many, many Americans recognize and are familiar when they hear of the Knights of Columbus but really don’t have a clue who we are and what we do. The standard and is that the KC’s are a fraternal organization of Catholic men and an insurance company. Neither of these are anything to be embarrassed about but these descriptions just don’t hit very close to home.
I think it is important that each of us is aware of what our LOCAL council does. Very simply stated, we give of ourselves (time and money) to help others. We volunteer our time to help the Special Olympics. We volunteer our time handing our Tootsie Rolls and accepting donations for the physically and mentally handicapped. We volunteer our time at pancake breakfasts and Von Hanson’s accepting donations and turning those donations into scholarships for parish high school seniors, financial donations to our sister parish and providing the brats and hotdogs at the Risen Savior Outdoor Mass.
Many Knights support the Risen Savior as Ushers, Eucharistic Ministries, and Religious Educators. We deliver the groceries from the church to the food shelf. We help with the Family Mass and with the baby bottles for Pregnancy Choices.
Our annual dues help support the initiative of the Knights of Columbus both state and nationally with Student loans and our personal additional donations provide to funds directly to Pennies for Seminaries, the Jim Campbell fund and bibles for the RCIA candidates at the Risen Savior.
All of the above does not include the many, many hours we volunteer as coaches, organizers and leaders in support of youth programs or the extraordinary work of some of our brother knights such as Gerry Krosnowski. Brother Gerry works tirelessly to feed the starving people of the Philippines.
Our work is never over so please mark on your calendars and continue to help and support in any way you can at our pancake breakfast on March 21, the Tootsie Roll drive April 23 -25 and Von Hanson’s on May 15 and 16.
As your Grand Knight and a brother to you all, I thank you for your contributions.
Paul Holm,
Grand Knight
